(My before surgery skin flap and visible umbilical hernia bubbling through the skin)
The first 72 hours weren't too shabby actually since they administered a shot called Experel that numbed everything out and made recovery quite comfortable.
The drains I'll say were probably the most aggrivating part of the recovery so far because they exit your body through your pubic mound and after a week you're pretty much over them. The drains are there to allow any fluid build up post surgery to well, drain from the body and avoid any chances of developing a seroma. Seromas are pockets of fluid built up under the skin or tissue and can be extremely uncomfy until drained. Bleck.
So, today I lucked out and got my right one removed. Sucker was snagging on my skin and irritating me and since my drains were under 30cc's of fluid in 24 hours I got one out. The second comes out Tuesday next week and I'm SO ready. (Brace yourselves I can't "maintain" so thar be hairs sproutin'. )
There is still a hole from the site of the removed drain and I have to gauze and neosporin it for a little bit until it scabs in a few days and stops weeping. Right now I'm still very swollen but loving my results so far. I'm down 6.5 lbs since surgery day and predicted to lose more since my hernia and muscle repair have been tightened so nicely that my stomach expansion to eat will be smaller portioned.
Can't fuss there 😁
Belly button is still healing but they did seperate the derma-bond on it today and I'm quite pleased. The scar for it will hide pretty well 😍
They also removed my beloved steri-strips so I'm feeling crunchy now. Scabby. My incision is low and thin which is awesome!! Buttt... With a scanning wound and a tight binder and cloths rubbing over it, feels pinchy and crunchy. So I taped gauze over the top to keep it from snagging. I begin silicone scar therapy in about 2-3 weeks which will flatten and fade my scar to almost nothing in a few months. I scar very well and lightly as time passes so I'm excited about this.
I have another few days before I'm standing upright fully too and my torso will stretch out a bit more and not look so short (even though I do have a shirt torso on stilts 😬 )
I'm leaning on the wall because my back is tired from all the walking today and I'm still so very swollen. Dr says I'll be nice and flat in a few weeks, to a couple of months and my posture will be taller again of course. (I'm still very tight in my center) bruising is actually fading fast so that'll be gone at the month marker. The little red dash on my waist is from my binder being too tight so I have to loosen it up some to breath, but my binder keeps me comfy so I can't wait to order the waist trainer so many people I've talked to have raved about after their surgeries. I'll post about that later on.
Over all I'm extremely pleased and still awe struck that even through the swelling, I have a flat belly and no more hernia. 7 years of living with it and now I'm on a new transformation journey.
Anyhow. Thanking everyone who has helped, prayed, supported, and encouraged me in this phase of my fitness journey.
I'll have the surgery photos (the gruesome ones haha) next week to share later. *giddy*
I'm weird and like that kinda stuff. 😬
One more week till I'm in my bed too and no more recliner! *squeak!*
More later, I'm ready for bed.
Much love to everyone. Here's to another smooth, healing week! 💖💖💖
Xoxoxo
